The Artisans Association creates a welcoming and inclusive community that values creativity and artistic expression. We provide opportunities to market member's art, and enhance appreciation for fine arts through our subsidiary, Stepping Up For Arts (SUFA), a 501c3 organization.
The association cultivates a vibrant arts presence by:
· Operating The Artisans Gallery on Howe, in downtown Southport, NC as a hub for displaying exquisite fine art and crafts created by members and other endorsed artists from the local area.
· Coordinating special retail occasions throughout the year, including the much-anticipated annual Holiday Boutique in November.
· Raising funds to support SUFA, which in turn orchestrates art workshops, allocates resources to support local fine arts educators, and provides college scholarships for aspiring local artists.
You can find the perfect gift or one-of-a-kind work of fine art for your home at The Artisans Gallery on Howe. The Gallery is housed in an historic building located in the first block of Howe Street by the waterfront in picturesque downtown Southport. A wide variety of different types of handcrafted art is represented including baskets, fibre arts, glasswork, jewelry, paintings, photography, pottery, woodwork, books by local authors, and so much more!
Our wall art displays are changed out every two months, while our 3D pieces are regularly replaced with new items.
Our teacher grants provide a wide variety of specialized program materials including software, weaving looms, painting supplies, musical instruments, and other materials. Our members also donate materials to fine arts teachers, such as clay, glazes, yarn, fabric, paper, brushes, and paints.
We have a proud history of awarding scholarships to deserving high school students each spring so these young adults may continue their studies in any field of art. In 2022 SUFA created an endowed scholarship at UNCW for Brunswick County students wishing to pursue studies in the arts.
Since our founding in 2010, SUFA has awarded more than $40,000 in grants and scholarships, impacting more than 3,000 students and 25 teachers throughout the Brunswick County. The organization is funded by various events and donations.
