Allie describes a successful creation as one which engages the viewer to find personal meaning in response to her work, given their unique life story and experiences. What the viewer brings to understanding her work is as critical to this interpretation as what Allie lays on the paper or canvas or wooden block.
For Allie, color and the dance it performs with light and texture, brings life and meaning to her work. What may begin with a wet into wet wash of watercolor, may get texturized or collaged or have layers of liquid acrylic built upon its surface as the creation unfolds. Much of her work is abstract expressionistic in style done in a water-based medium, but at times is very objective and may may be created in oil or pastel or alcohol ink or even encased in resin!
Experimental exploration of media and substrate keeps her work vital and her interest in creating art alive. Her latest venture involves pouring watercolor paint. Check back for photos of those as new ones are offered.
Having taken workshops with Kate Worm, Sterling Edwards, Linda Kemp, Ryan Fox, Dan Nelson, Trish McKinney, Chappy Valenti, Betsy Dillard Stroud, Carol Nelson, MJ Cunningham, Mary Ellen Golden and Alexis Bonavitacola, Allie enjoys combining what she has learned from each of them in new and unique ways.
“We are so blessed to enjoy life … God gave me whatever talent I have for a greater purpose. In a world where we can send orbiters throughout the rings of Saturn, no one on this planet should be without clean water” so half of my proceeds have supported clean water wells in Africa for several years.”
