Jeff Miller began his photography career in 1980 when he received his first 35mm camera. At that time, Jeff was a patrol officer with the Fairfax County Police Department and used the camera to document his investigative work. He soon began to expand his photographic horizons in more traditional pursuits like sports photos, children’s portraits, vacation pictures, landscapes, and holiday celebrations. In 1987 Jeff became a Crime Scene Detective and forensic analyst where he had access to all kinds of cameras and darkroom equipment. This was a time when he began an advanced photography education, though it was mostly forensic in nature, he was able to use the same techniques in his personal images.
Artist Statement:
In 2023 I retired and moved to Southport. My parents had a vacation home in St. James, so I have been coming here for thirty years. I have extensive exposure (pun intended) to Photoshop and many other digital photography tools to include various camera formats and print mediums. I have a small photography business printing and selling fine art black & white and color prints concentrating on landscapes and travel images. My photos have received numerous awards and have been printed in national publications. I truly enjoy trying to record those moments in time that will never occur again. The morning light as it reflects off the side of the Eiffel Tower, a spectacular thunderstorm as it builds over a blue domed church in Santorini, these unique moments will never repeat themselves in exactly the same way again. If I can anticipate these golden moments and capture them with the help of my camera, then I can preserve them for all to share. I have, in a certain way, captured time in a box and printed that moment on paper.
