I am a self-taught, award-winning abstract artist working in acrylics and mixed media. Learning the craft and experimenting with a variety of mediums and styles are what drive me to create intuitive art focusing on color and shape. My art is colorful and happy utilizing unusual color combos and secret “finds” in my compositions. Rather than painting pictures of things I see, I prefer letting my intuition direct what ends up on the canvas. But I do paint abstract florals and “little houses” because I can never resist their charm and beauty.
My art education began with exploring Zentangle, a pen and ink technique utilizing one-stroke-at-a-time to create a completely, one-of-a-kind unique picture. Years later, I became a Certified Zentangle Instructor studying with the originators of the artform. Zentangle is incorporated in much of work and recently I have studied Neurographic Art techniques to create truly intuitive, free-form works.
I have spent a lifelong career in corporate marketing creating brand imaging and marketing campaigns in the fashion industry for large retail chains and shopping centers.
New to Southport, I am originally from Long Island. I have lived in the Midwest most of my adult life including Indianapolis, Minneapolis and Detroit and recently moved with my husband, Ray and little dog Pandyman (the best dog in the world & husband too) from Safety Harbor, Florida a west coast town on the Gulf near Clearwater. Being primarily a “big city” girl, I am delighted by our new small-town life with friendly neighbors, beautiful NC weather, flora and fauna and the uniqueness of Southport and look forward to exploring the community.
