Artist Statement
I started sewing in my early teens, making Barbie clothes for my sisters. In HS, I took a course at Singer Sewing Center and made a winter coat. My grandmother was an excellent seamstress, she taught me many skills and I have continued to sew into adulthood. I have made quilts for all my family members and extended family, including those for graduations, birthdays, weddings and wedding anniversaries, and new babies. I loved making little outfits for my daughters when they were tiny and now, I do the same for my granddaughters.
When I worked in the NICU, a coworker started a tradition of making wall hangings for every pregnant mom we worked with. This grew to those retiring and those leaving us for other employment. I was very involved in that project. Besides making a square for each quilt, I also put them together. Each had a theme to compliment the nursery or that person’s interests.
My inspiration is challenging patterns and beautiful fabrics. There is a general excitement seeing a yard of fabric turn into a creation that will be enjoyed and used by others.
