I grew up in northern Virginia and graduated from Radford University with a BS in Art Education. I have a passion for photography, acrylic painting, and pencil portraits, I but didn't realize I had artistic talent until I was a senior in high school. My family encouraged me to pursue art. Although I never became a school art teacher, I did computer graphics and web design near my son's school, which allowed me to volunteer in the school's art room a few times a year.
For my career, I ended up redesigning websites and applications as a User Experience Designer while working for companies such as Northrop Grumman, Bloomberg, and my current company, IBM. My focus went from drawing on paper to designing on the computer using the latest design software and technologies. It was an easy transition for me.
My husband Randy and I moved to Southport, NC, in May 2021 during COVID as both of us were able to work remotely. After a neighbor saw samples of my artwork, she encouraged me to join the Artisans in St. James. I had my very first art show as an Artisan and I am looking forward to challenging myself to do more pieces outside of my comfort zone. I also am part of the photography club in St. James and continue to play softball with my husband in Oak Island. I still have a few more years before I can fully retire but am thrilled to be living the coastal life here in Southport.
Artist Statement
Most of my work is realistic, but I am trying to be looser and more spontaneous.
